How to Expend Your Mind And Be An Open-minded Person

As the author, Jonathan Swift said in his book, “No man was ever so completely skilled in the conduct of life, as not to receive new information from age and experience.” One should open his mind so as to let more thoughts blow into his mind, and absorb knowledge to enrich intelligence. Talking with intelligent person or reading books will give you insight into things you are facing.

Think of it. Someone has captured his own life and he puts it into a published book to try to share rights and wrongs in their life with others. Will you choose to read such books and try to avoid such mistakes in your life, or stick to invent your own life with such mistakes? What about such mistakes that bigger and knock you down?
It is not easy to obtain an open minded. But it’s not about compromise your principles. We only need to step out of our comfort zones, listen to others with the thoughts of pushing ourselves to improve, so as to gain useful new experience, knowledge and ideas. 
Reading is one of the best ways that we can get much closer to other’s thoughts. By reading books, you can input countless years of experience, creativity, knowledge, and wisdom into your mind in a handful of hours. But you have to choose information that can come into your mind. You can check the previous articles about how to spot the information that useful to you. And the search engine can help a lot. Here is a simple principle that you can choose books written by people who have accomplished something you want, or you desire. 
Learning a new language. As you know, learning a language is not only learning the language itself, but something more than that such as the culture. And learning a language can be challenging, engaging and fun, especially when you find you can communicate with a person with their native language while traveling and make it much more interesting and colorful. 
You can also learn to play some musical instrument, such as piano or African drum Djembe, anything you want. You do not have to give a recital. Just enjoy playing! If you have a friend that can play some instrument, he or she can help you to start, and you can get some useful advice. 
Push the limits of your body. By using your body in new ways, you can learn more about yourself, and expand your mind. Learn to do a handstand. A back flip. A kip-up, Take martial arts classes. Try some Hip-Hop classes or learn a break dance move. Can you touch your toes? Work on it. Try skiing, snowboarding, jet skiing, Hang gliding, parasailing, surfing, and anything else that pushes the limits of your comfort zone.
Open your mind to other political or religious points of view. You may find it hard to stomach at first, but in time, you might find a grain of truth in what your nemesis has to say. Even if you do not, you will be able to argue with one of “them” much more intelligently. Here is a hard but effective method: take a controversial issue that you have a strong opinion about. Write an essay defending your opinion with as much evidence and actual citations as possible. Then write another essay defending the other side, again with evidence and citations, considering that side’s arguments seriously and being scrupulously honest and putting in as much effort as you did the first essay.
Talk to someone you would not normally talk to –for example the homeless people. If you give them a dollar or a chocolate bar, they are usually happy to talk to you for a little while. They may sometimes astonish you with their thoughts –some ideas that may inspire you –to write a novel. I do not know…
Go traveling. Going to a new place is really a good way to open your mind. See, you do not understand or cannot believe things that written in the books, why not go and see, and experience the excitement, to accept a conscious blessing from the nature?
Moreover, you can also try some strategy games like Bridge, Checkers, Chess, Shogiand Go, form the crossword puzzle, or solve some mathematical problems. They can not only open your mind, but sharpen it.
