A normal or standard martini is made by blending five parts gin or vodka to one part vermouth. The ingredients are then either shaken or stirred to make a martini. The shaken or stirred question varies from one individual to another. Olives are very popular garnishes used in martinis. Many purists believe that martini should be made only with gin. But there are a lot of people who prefer vodka in the place of gin. This debate has been going around for a long time and certainly doesn't seem to stop anytime soon.
There are many different kinds of martini today like the key lime martini, the Mexican martini, the cosmopolitan etc. The key lime martini and the Mexican martini are quite popular. To make a key lime martini, the glass has to chilled in a freezer for a few minutes. Then the rim is dipped into rose's lime juice and twirled in graham cracker crumbs. A wedge of lime can be added to enhance the visual splendor of the drink. In a key lime martini vodka is used instead of gin. The vodka and vermouth is shaken and poured into the garnished martini glass and thus your key lime martini is ready to be savored.
Making a Mexican martini is fun too. The Mexican martini is sweet and has a distinctive milky green color to it. When making a Mexican martini you have to half fill the cocktail shaker with crushed ice. An olive, a splash of lemon lime soda and lime juice has to be added to the shaker. Then two ounces of both orange juice and tequila is then poured into the mix and shaken vigorously. The resulting drink is poured into the glass and ready to be served.
There is only one cocktail that has captured so many hearts all these years and that is a martini. Throughout history the martini has managed to enthrall cocktail enthusiasts and normal people alike with its versatility and flavor.
