Love Gold? Get a Gold Detector!
When the fever for gold grabs an adventurer, there is one solution, search and find that gold. Once the accomplish this they have one other thing on their mind... finding more!
The entire family can get involved with this popular hobby. Imagine the fun you can have as you go treasure hunting on the beach as a family, and then imagine the elation when you actually find something. Veteran metal detectors have provided great insight from their extensive experience and use of metal detectors which can be found on many websites.
Metal or gold detectors are all basically the same, they are made light-weight and have just a few essential parts, such as:
- The Stabilizer is an optional appendage used to effect a sense of balance while you move the device to and fro.
- Control box, this piece holds the microprocessor, controls, circuitry and batteries.
- The Shaft, which hooks into the main controls and coil, is able to be adjusted to different levels.
- Search coil, also known as "antenna", "loop", or "search head", this is the portion that is responsible for the detection of the metal.
Many different technologies are utilized in metal detectors. Very Low Frequency (VLF) technology, Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) and Pulse Induction (PI) technology are some of the technologies being used today. Of these, VLF is the most prominent and also used in gold detectors.
If you are not fully able to grasp the concept of how to use a gold detector, you may end up passing over some valuable gold flecks. Conductivity is the principle behind metal detectors, every metal object conducts electricity, this means that electricity and heat is able to move through it. It doesn't matter if the metal object contains any iron for it to be conductive.
The gold detector sends out an electromagnetic field that goes deep into the ground to seek out conductive metal objects; when it does come across a potential find, the search coil finds it and sends out a signal. You are informed of this by a noise that comes from the speakers located in the control box, or on some units you will need to be wearing headphones. Instead of detecting mass, these machines react to an object's surface area; an increased surface area will makes it more possible for the metal detector to find metals at a deeper level.
If a coin is buried face down you will be able to detect it deeper than a similar coin that is laying standing up. You can sometimes get fake signals from your metal detector because it will react to other substances that are not metallic, such as iron ores, certain minerals and even beach salt. This problem, with the utilization of ground balance function, can be easily repaired.
Gold detectors can be found in any number of different price ranges. The more serious the hobbyist, the more their detector can cost, you will need to judge for yourself your level of competency and financial dedication when considering your choice in metal detectors.
